Last semester, many of us were caught off guard when the spread of COVID-19 resulted in worldwide shutdowns. God-willing, we will not experience another shutdown here at NMU or in the Upper Peninsula, but just in case, we have a plan in place with the health and safety of our students in mind.
Below, you will find:
First, make sure you let NMU know, as this will help them to contact other individuals (i.e. contact tracing) who may have been in contact with you.
Second, please reach out the Fr. Dustin at CCM, as we will be keeping records of people who are here in the building. That will allow us to help NMU with contact tracing.
Third, and most importantly, even if you are sick with COVID, Fr. Dustin is still able to provide for you sacramentally (Holy Communion; Confession; Anointing of the Sick). If you find yourself in a quarantine situation and would like to receive the sacraments, please reach out to Fr. Dustin at fatherdustin@nmucatholic.org.
Current Plan (Updated Nov 21, 2020)
Assuming the best, we will be holding in-person events! However, if you are unable to attend due to sickness or any othe reason, please contact Fr. Dustin at fatherdustin@nmucatholic.org and we will try to arrange for the possibility for you to join via Zoom. See below for the Zoom information listed in the backup plan.
BACKUP Plan - If Things Get Worse...
We will utilize Zoom for gatherings as much as we need to. You can expect to use the following Zoom ID, at least initially:
Zoom Meeting ID: 269-569-1124
Password: nmucats
If we have to go online, you can expect to find all your necessary Zoom links here on this COVID page, or by contacting your small group leaders.
Current Plan (Updated Nov 21, 2020)
Yes, CCM is open. The fireplace area will be free for people to enter and visit, though we will need to take precautions to space people out in the room (please see next questions regarding safety measures and masks).
Additionally, there are three large rooms available for CCM use on the 2nd floor of the old Father Marquette Middle School building. Whether you want to hold a small group get-together (Bible Study, etc), or if you just need a desk and a quiet place to study, those rooms are available for your use!
BACKUP Plan - If Things Get Worse...
We certainly hope that we do not need to close CCM again. A lot of what this would look like is specific to future executive orders, and it's hard to guess what this will look like.
Father Dustin will continue to be available by phone and email. Our in-person faith gatherings will go as-scheduled, either in person or online. Our social events may have to be online-only, depending on the circumstances we find ourselves in. See specific details under the above question, "How do I stay connected to CCM virtually?"
Current Plan (updated Nov 21, 2020)
If you are experiencing COVID-19 Symptoms: Seek medical assistance and look into getting a COVID test. If you test positive, please don't hesitate to contact Father Dustin to discuss the possibility of receiving the Anointing of the Sick.
Masks: In accordance with the most recent executive orders, we have posted signs stating that everyone who enters the public areas of the building needs to wear a mask. Furthermore, as of August 1, 2020, Bishop John Doerfler has mandated "everyone over the age of 5 to wear a face mask for indoor celebrations of Mass and the Sacraments, and for all indoor parish meetings and events."
Personal Hygene: We will have hand sanitizer and soap available for use.
Cleaning: We are asking that anyone who comes here would clean their area before they leave. We will have cleaning supplies available to spray down tables and chairs.
Social Distancing: Per the current executive orders in effect, we are required to socially distance, both indoors and outdoors, at least six feet from one another.
Temperature: An infrared thermometer has been purchased for CCM use. We may decide to check temperatures before CCM Events (such as Wednesday's Food for Thought). As of right now, we won't require temperature checks if you simply come here to study or hang out, but we are happy to check your temperature if you like.
BACKUP Plan - If Things Get Worse...
Much of this is dependent upon the direction of future executive orders. We are prepared to move in-person events to online events when and if ordered to do so. See specific details under the above question, "How do I stay connected to CCM virtually?"
Current Plan (Updated Nov 21, 2020)
As of August 1, 2020, Bishop John has mandated the wearing of masks for indoor celebrations of the Mass and the Sacraments. Thus, please wear a mask, and sit at least six feet from people outside of your household/dorm room. If you live in the same door room/household, please sit next to one another as to make space for others.
Note that any indoor "restrictions" do not apply to religious worship! Thus, so long as we can safely space people in the pews, we do not need to limit Mass or Adoration attendance!
Weekend Masses: In the Diocese of Marquette (and therefore at St. Michael's and CCM), we do have public Masses. While we don't require it, if you are an NMU student, we kindly suggest attending the 7 PM Mass at St. Michael's as to leave space for other St. Michael's parishioners at our other weekend Masses. The other weekend Masses are currently at 4 PM on Saturday and 11 AM on Sunday. The 8 AM Sunday Mass is currently suspended.
Live-Streamed Weekend Mass: the 11 AM St. Michael's Mass is currently live-streamed here.
Weekday Masses: Monday, Thursday, and Friday are at 8 AM. Tuesday is at 9 AM. Wednesday is at 5:15 PM.
Online Homily Recordings: Fr. Dustin regularly posts weekend homily recordings on the CCM Facebook page. You can expect a recording every weekend, barring unforseen circumstances.
Private Prayer in the Church: St. Michael's is open during the day for private prayer. Please wear a mask, and sit at least six feet from people outside of your household/dorm room.
Eucharistic Adoration: Currently we have 45 minutes of Adoration on Wednesdays from 4:30 PM to 5:15 PM and from 8:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Thursdays.
Confessions: On Saturdays, confessions are heard from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at outdoor confession stations in the parking lot. On Sunday (while NMU is in session), in the Zyrd Parish Center from 5:45 to 6:45 PM. On Wednesdays, from 4:30 to 5:15 PM in the Church during Eucharistic Adoration. On Thursdays, confessions are heard from 8-9 PM in the Sacristy during Eucharistic adoration. You can always contact Fr. Dustin and set up an appointment.
BACKUP Plan - If Things Get Worse...
If we have to close down St. Michael's again, plan on the following:
Live-Streamed Weekend Mass: the 11 AM St. Michael's Mass is currently live-streamed here.
Adoration: plan on Parking Lot Eucharistic Adoration. The Blessed Sacrament will be exposed on the second floor of the school building. We would ask that you remain in your cars.
Confessions: assume that Confessions are still available as normal, unless otherwise communicated.
Specific details would also be communicated at that time.
Current Plan (Updated Nov 21, 2020)
6 PM Food: Yes, we will still have (free) food! If the weather allows, we are able to eat the food outdoors. As needed, we will use a combination of the gym, the main CCM center, and various other rooms in order to provide adequate space for everyone to eat.
7 PM Activity / Talk: The activity/talk, weather, and numbers will help determine whether we are inside or outside.
BACKUP Plan - If Things Get Worse...
If we have to stop holding in-person events, plan on the following:
6 PM Food: We will utilize Zoom to meet for casual socializing, and if you desire, you can show everyone what you are eating that evening. Also, we will do our best to provide food-to-go!
Zoom Meeting ID: 269-569-1124
Password: nmucats
7 PM Activity / Talk: We will use the above Zoom Meeting ID and Password for the activity or talk planned for the evening.
Current Plan (Updated Nov 21, 2020)
Bible Study leaders will coordinate with their groups in order to establish a time/place to meet in person in a safe-socially distant manner. As needed, we will attempt to make it possible for individuals to join via Zoom, even if the group is meeting in person.
For other CCM gatherings or activities (hikes, trips, etc.), we will communicate details as the need arises.
BACKUP Plan - If Things Get Worse...
We will transition our in-person Bible Studies to online Bible Studies and utilize Zoom as necessary. Contact Father Dustin, a Peer Minister, or your Bible Study leader for detailed information on your particular study.
Yes, you are able to join a study even if you haven't previously. Contact Father Dustin or a Peer Minister to connect with a Bible Study.
For other CCM gatherings or activities (hikes, trips, etc.), we will communicate changes or cancellations as the need arises.
Current Plan (Updated Nov 21, 2020)
As of now, the typical semester retreat is probably not going to happen. However, we do have the SEEK 2021 virtual conference from February 4-7, and the possibility of one or two more "mini-retreats" throughout the semester! Stay tuned...
Current Plan (Updated Nov 21, 2020)
